Still looking for my "big chance" but I don't get out of the house much during the week... any ideas out there?

I don't want to wait and miss my chance to be a blessing to someone in need, what should I do?

My family and I were at church on Sunday and heard the message of giving ten dollars...On Monday morning, my husband went to work as usual. Now a week ago he canceled his debit card because an automatic debit we had canceled continued to come out of our account. So, his solution cancel his debit card. He decided not to get another one because he thought he was spending money too easily. When he left the house he took $25.00 dollars out of my purse and that was all the money he had. Later that morning he had to go to the gas station to get gas for his fork lifts. He pumped the gas and went in to pay. In front of him in line was a woman who he said was getting "sick food'...you know popsicles.... orange juice...stuff for someone who obviously was sick. When the clerk rang her up she realized she didn't have enough money. Without even thinking about it my husband gave her the $20.00 to pay for her groceries. After she walked out and he got to the counter he realized what he had done.....he only had $5.00 to pay for $18.00 worth of gas...because he had no debit card, nor his credit card....so, he started digging up change out of his pockets and he basically ransacked his truck and came up with the extra $13.00...He owns his own business in a small community. Later that day he was asking his employees if they had anything extra for lunch...he had no lunch and no money....about that time a car pulled onto his property. He went out to see who it was and it was the woman from the gas station. She thanked my husband, explained that they have money, she just didn't have it on her. She said that they were at home making lunch, that she lives down the road, and knew who he was, and decided to make some extra roast beef sandwiches for him and whoever wanted them. I know....I am not making this up.....this really happened....I told my husband i was going to put this on the blog....I think the spirit will tell you when, where, and how....and who knows it might even be reciprocated! Hopefully i will have more stories to share..of myself and my daughter giving.....
God Bless!

Thanks for the ideas!

I'll be leaving the house tomorrow (for the first time since Sunday), so I have a funny feeling God has a plan. (doesn't he always?)

Natalie,

That's a cool story, but now that someone blessed him back, your husband has to go out and bless someone else... (that's the whole concept of "pay it forward" right?)

It could be a never-ending snowball!! How cool is that?!

Although I did not feel it was very original, I felt led to pay for the food of the person behind me at the drive thru line at McDonalds. I asked the McDonalds employee to give the lady a card (that Ellen has available in her office that says "We want to show the love of Jesus in a practical way~Westview Baptist Church). Who knows, maybe she'll check us out and hopefully was blessed as well.

I was at the shelter shop(for abused and battered women) this morning looking for a costume and noticed a can for donations...I put in a $20. I also went to the Dollar store and shocked the customers in front and behind me by buying their purchase. The lady in front of me asked me are you sure and why?? The man behind me also asked why and I told him that my pastor gave us an assignment to bless a stranger...he proceeded to ask what is the name of the church...I gave him a bulletin. He explained how he had just moved here from Wisconsin and was sooooo shocked that someone had purchased his items. I LOVE THIS ASSIGNMENT!

I'll admit that I've struggled all week to give away $10. I work all day in an office setting but I find myself stuck in my office and not really mingling with many people. So, I resorted to trying to listen to hallway conversation just outside my office to see if God would reveal anything. On Wed. I heard a young whom I didn't know talking about how she has had all sorts of problems with her bank account and had to close it and therefore didn't have money to pay the $10.50 she owed for Girl Scout cookies. She must have really been bothered by not being able to pay this debt right away because she came back today to say that she hopes to have the money next week. After she left, I walked over to the woman she'd been talking to and explained how I had been given this assignment to bless someone this week and how I had overheard the conversation and really wanted to pay for the cookies. She gladly took the money. I told her that I didn't want my name known and she said she would make something up. So, not a big WOW, but she will be blessed when she comes to work on Fri. to find out that her debt has been paid.

P.S. I would love to had one of the cards that Jenny mentioned. Can these be handed out on Sunday? If we all got even 1 that would be great.

The husband of a friend of mine from high school passed away last week, after a 6 year battle with cancer. In addition to his wife, he left behind two teenage sons. My family decided to collectively give our "blessing" money to these boys' education fund. By the way, this man truly loved the Lord. He influenced & inspired & blessed many people, particularly through his work as a band director and a vocal music teacher at the college level. He composed "Jesus: Words & Verses" a cantata for choral & orchestra and many praise & worship songs. I don't think that my family's little contribution will make much of a difference in the boys' education fund, but I hope in some small way they receive a blessing from it.

Well, my money came back to me. The seller of the Girls Scout cookies went home that night to find out that her husband was eating the cookies. So, she bought them. So, the young woman I had wanted to bless never found out about this and missed out on her Girl Scout cookies too. Not exactly what I had in mind...I'm looking for my next opportunity.

Friday on my way to my next building I suddenly felt this pull to buy everyone lunch. I have never done this before, but I pulled into TACO Bell and ordered a large round of TACO's. When I was getting the order the lady asked who this was for. I had the chance to deal her about Westview and passing on the blessing. I got to work several had brought no lunch and were grumpy to say the least. Again they were thrilled at lunch and I got to share about Westview yet again. I also wanted to say that on Thurs. I decided to quickly stop at the dollar store I was out of ink pens. I had checked out and the cashier was telling the customer behind me how someone had been in that day and bought the items for the person in front and behind them. So to whoever listed that as their blessing act above your blessing was still being talked about by the cashier.

My daughter's car was broken into on Friday night over in St. Louis. Her book bag was taken with all of her notes for this semester as well as some photos and personal items that are irreplacable. My son and I drove over early on Saturday morning to check out the area to see if possibly the theif realized there was no monetary value and dumped the bag. We scoured all of the trach cans and dumpsters for a 6 block radius. Unfortunately we were unsuccessful in finding the bag. While we were walking the streets about 5:00am we walked past a church and in the doorway a homeless man was sleeping. Remember that the temp this morning was 16 degrees. I could not bring myself to continue walking and told my son that I knew what we were going to do with our blessing money. I tried to quietly set the money between his feet as he slept but he awoke with a freight. I simply handed him the 20 and said I wanted to help him out and walked on my way. This event has played out in my mind several times today and I am astonished that this man was able to survive the night. God was watching over this man indeed. So a bad experience for my daughter led my son and I to bless a homeless man in Saint Louis.

We finally got our opportunity to bless someone. After eating our meal and receiving the bill, my husband asked the waitress if she attend Church, she said sometimes. He told her that he was going to give her 20% for her tip and then the extra was to bless her, so that she might bless someone else. She asked where we went to church and we were able to share several things about what is happening at Westview and invited her to come. I have to say giving her a blessing was great, but even greater was the chance to share with her about church and the exciting things that are happening.

As soon as she put it on her dash, i told her to start the car and of course it started!!! She tried to give me the money for the gas but i told her, to remember this good deed that was done for her and to pass it on to another person that may need it!! it brought a tear to her eye, i could see the lord working at that moment!!!!!!!!! It was a blessing to see my daughter wanting to help someone that was in need of help, and to comfort them and make them laugh in time of stress!!! She is a angel!! I am very blessed!

I took my $10 out-of-town and gave it to my brother. In the past few years, he and I haven't really gotten along too well. He's out of work due to his back and living with my mom. Having had back surgery myself a couple of years ago, I know that it can be very painful but I often feel as though he's taking advantage of my mother. I told him that my only requirements for giving him the money was that he couldn't use it to buy cigarettes and that he had to pass "It" on. I am still at my mother's visiting today and I must say this is the first trip of many that we haven't been at each other's throats the entire time. He's even talking about returning to work and helping my mother to get her house fixed up.

I will look for an apportunity closer to home once I return, but for now I feel blessed to have been able to give him the money and pray that God will entervine and work in his life to improve his back pain and allow him to return to work.

I love this program and all of the posts, keep it up everyone and have a blessed week.

We went to lunch at a local restaurant the day Pastor Eddie gave us our assignment, and it was really crowded! We got seated 45 minutes later,(they did not mention it was going to be that long of a wait) and needless to say our kids were really hungry by then. Our server seemed a bit frazzled and told us that they were short staffed, and we let her know we understood, and that it wasn't her fault. She thanked us, and told us she was glad to have understanding customers, because it seemed like on Sunday's people were especially impatient, even though you could tell they just got out of church! We then waited another 45 minutes to get our meal. Each time our server came back we tried to reassure her that we knew it was just one of those days. It made us really watch our attitudes, because we, as Christ followers, are supposed to show the love of Jesus, and isn't it amazing how quickly we can forget that, just because things aren't going just the way we want? We gave her a tip, and then we gave her a $20 as well. What a great assignment, it really has made me try to think of how we can be a blessing and share a bit of God's love wherever we go!

P.S. Loved reading everyones inspirational stories!

I eat out a lot with business. This afternoon I was out with a friend and our waitress named Casey came to our table to take our order. She knew my face, and had remebered meeting me at Westview years ago when she visited with a friend. She is now in her early 20's, with two small children, unmarried, and trying to provide for herself and her children. We had a brief conversation about church, where she was attending, she wasn't, and also had an opportunity to pray for the health of her children and that she might find herself back in church. These are the things she ask us to pray for. My friend and I left her a total of. I say this to say, that I actually had cash in my wallet, so I pulled out 15.00, and my friend pulled out 7.00, and we blessed her with the cash plus tip, that came to over 25.00 total. What an honor to help Casey. Please pray that Casey might find the hope that is only offered through Jesus Christ our Lord.
